The following is a guide, and you can tailor it according to what feels right in the context of a phone call or email/letter. We originally drew inspiration from a joint statement released by Palestine activist groups across australia, which you can read here.

“My name is [XXX],​​​​​​​

I am contacting you about the Palestinian genocide. I find australia’s silence about israel’s ongoing war crimes, violation of multiple international human rights and flagrant disregard for the ICJ’s order to prevent genocide deeply shameful and upsetting.

As my representative, I want you to call on the australian government to:

  1. Withdraw support for israel’s genocide.
  2. Demand a permanent ceasefire now and end the siege on Gaza.
  3. Demand israel to release all Palestinian political prisoners.
  4. Demand an end to all israeli occupation of Palestinian land and apartheid policies against Palestinians.
  5. Recognise and facilitate the right of return for Palestinian refugees to their homeland.
  6. Impose sanctions and cut all political, economic and military ties with israel.
  7. Recognise Palestinian statehood.

As you may already know, the International Court of Justice determined that there is a plausible case of genocide in Gaza and ordered israel to take all measures within its power to prevent the commission of genocidal acts. Yet, israel has recently begun its invasion of Rafah – one of the densest places on earth, home to over a million people – and has given no indication of heeding the calls of its so-called allies, including australia, to stop.

Enough is enough.

If you do not call for the end of israel’s genocide, occupation and apartheid against Palestine, as well as recognising its Statehood and the right to return for Palestinian refugees, I will make sure not to vote for you at the next election. I will also organise my community to ensure you no longer have our vote, as you do not represent our interests.
